Oil Tank Emergency

Evening Call Out on a steel bunded oil tank in Hemyock.
It is always worth checking steel tanks over. This example was a bunded steel oil tank, yet failed after only 12 years due to rusting from the inside out, which easily goes unnoticed from the outside. In this case the customer was outside and noticed the damage, prompt after a phone call on our call out line we arrived and pumped all saveable oil into a holding tank on site for the customer.
This is why we advise Harlequin plastic bunded tanks as we find them reliable, long lasting (expected life span 25 years plus) and visibly easier to spot damage.

An example of a tank installation in Wellington.

A site visit prior to the job was necessary to assess the best positioning for a new oil tank.

A free quotation and advice can be helpful for hard-to-reach spots, to discuss the best solutions to achieve a OFTEC compliance certificate while suiting the customer’s requirements of the garden. This invloved digging away at the ground to create a area far enough away from the outbuilding.

(Photo of a team member pumping oil out of cracked tank)

Summer 2022 during the heat wave we received a call on our emergency line from a new customer based outside of Taunton. The tank had just been filled with heating oil, the pressure revealed splits which shortly after started to leak.

Within 40 minutes of the call O M Hines Ltd responded and attended the site, after discussion with customer it was decided that we would pump the 2500L of heating oil above the crack to avoid any contamination. We then advised customers that the redundant oil tank was being supported poorly by the current stand. Our suggestion to create a base that complies OFTEC regulations the correct distance away from the house. This was a positive outcome for the customer as it re-opened an exciting path around the house.

O M Hines Ltd.’s digger was used to create a level within the bank, we then created a retaining wall to hold back the soil. A new pipeline was trenched to the new tank position. A new 2500ITE which was the perfect size for all the oil saved within the emergency call out. It is important to us as a company to create the most cost-effective solution for you as the customer. We always try our best to find the most appropriate location while working within your budget and within OFTEC regulations.

O M Hines Ltd carried out an oil tank replacement for a landlord’s property just outside of Wiveliscombe, in Ford Village. The tenants reported a strong smell of oil when near oil tank.
This caused concern as most of the tank was being covered by the hedge.
On a prompt inspection from a qualified member of the team, the free site survey revealed that the single skinned 2500L tank had multiple splits on the inner side.

Our recommendations included replacing the oil tank to a slightly smaller 2000ITE Harlequin Bunded tank, on discussion it was more appropriate for the use/need of the property. Secondly, we advised that the stand be replaced as it was no longer fit for purpose and was subsiding on one side. The base for a oil tank is equally as important as the tank its self, providing stability for the weight pressure within the tank, otherwise splits in the tank may appear from a uneven disruption of pressure.
